A female officer is top cop in the latest group of police recruits to graduate from The Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua today.
Emma Moore, who is being posted to Auckland Central, has been awarded the Minister’s Prize for First in Wing, the International Police Association Academic Prize, and the Physical Training and Defensive Tactics Award. This third prize is rarely won by a female officer, says National Manager: Training and Professional Development Superintendent Alistair (Olly) Beckett.
Emma’s desire to join Police began at secondary school after accompanying a Scene of Crime Officer during a careers week. Before entering Police she gained law and science degrees with a view to eventually working in the forensics area.
Also graduating today is former NPC and Hurricanes rugby player, Richard Jarman. Richard, who is being posted to Hastings, has taken two wing prizes – the Driver Training Award and the Holden Tactical Skills and Safety Prize.
59 recruits will graduate – 41 males and 18 females
32 recruits will be posted to Auckland districts
14 recruits will be posted to other North Island districts
13 recruits will be posted to the South Island

International Police Association Academic Prize (overall winner for academic exams 1, 2 & 3) was awarded to Constable Emma MOORE, posted to Auckland Central.
Ericsson Practical Prize (overall winner for practical assessments, file preparation and fingerprinting) was awarded to Constable Kelley DONALDSON, posted to Palmerston North.
The HOLDEN Tactical Skills & Safety Prize (overall winner in Defensive Tactics, Firearms & Driving) was awarded to Constable Richard JARMAN, posted to Hastings.

The Meltzer Prize for Weapon Training was awarded to Constable Jamie WOODS, posted to Auckland City.

Wing Patron: David Moloney OBE
David Moloney has had a distinguished career with the New Zealand Army Infantry and Special Air Service (SAS).
He joined the SAS in 1965 and commanded it from 1971-72. Between 1974-77 he commanded the 2nd 1st Battalion (400-700 Army personnel) at Burnham Military Camp. He was awarded an OBE for his work heading the NZ Commonwealth Truce Monitoring Group in Zimbabwe from 1979-80, monitoring a cease-fire to enable elections to be held.
He retired from the Army in 1983 at the rank of Colonel and has since taken on various roles in management and trade organisations. He is currently on the Board of the Todd Foundation, which allocates funds to New Zealand research projects.
David has also been actively involved with Wellington rugby and is Chairman of the Marsden and Chelsea Trust, which operates two day-care centres for sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
