Police investigate domestic incident that culminates in fatal crash

Police are investigating a domestic incident in Glenn Innes yesterday morning that culminated in a fatal car crash.

Police believe a 20 year old man and his 19 year old wife were involved in an altercation at their Taniwha Street home around 10am this morning.

The man then left in the family car with their 11 month old baby girl.

Shortly afterwards the car crashed into a tree on Riverside Avenue, Point England.

The father died at the scene, his name is Tairia Raveora.

The 11month old daughter is in a critical condition in Starship Hospital with multiple injuries.

"This is a very sad incident and we’re trying to determine what happened during the altercation and why the car crashed", said Inquiry Head, Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Scott.

"We’ve called on the expertise of Serious Crash Unit to determine the circumstances surrounding the vehicle hitting the tree".
