Update

Reports this morning that Mark's bank account was used on the 17th of August are correct, however this is an established automatic payment to his internet service provider.

Police have established the identities of the two people he shared a room with at the Purple Cow Backpackers on the 16-18th May. Both have subsequently left New Zealand. Interpol are attempting to make contact with them to try and establish if they can offer any new information regarding Mark's intentions after leaving the Hostel.
