The fourth annual Police National Maori Responsiveness Conference: Ngakia Kia Puawai 2004, will officially get underway in Auckland City District at 8am tomorrow [Weds].
The conference will be run over two and a half days - until midday on Friday November 12 - at Waipuna Lodge in Mt Wellington. Conference delegates are being officially welcomed to the city during a powhiri at Orakei Marae at 6pm this evening.
All 12 Police districts will be represented at the conference by 130 Police staff who will discuss and deliberate on the main theme of the conference - Crime and Crash Reduction: Maori Specific.
Acting commander of Auckland City District, Detective Superintendent Gavin Jones, said this year’s conference programme has been designed to challenge all 12 Police districts to further 'strengthen and develop' their initiatives to reduce the over-representation of Maori in victimisation, offending and re-offending.
