North Shore Police are investigating a series of crimes believed to be committed by a group of offenders round Auckland. The crimes include the ram raid burglary of an ATM machine and the use of stolen vehicles.
Detective Scott Armstrong of the Glenfield Combined Investigation Unit says, "People may know something about the crimes, especially the ram raid of the ATM in Milford Shopping Mall on November 16th, as the large amount of money obtained would be difficult to conceal from those close to the offenders."
During the ram raid the entire ATM machine was removed from the Milford mall. Parts of the machine were later recovered on the night of the 17th of November at a school in Sunnynook. Damage to the machine suggests a tool has been used that would cause a considerable amount of industrial noise, over an extended time.
Detective Armstrong says, "Someone may have heard an unusual or loud noise in a residential or light commercial area on the 16th or 17th of November 2004 and this may have been the offenders gaining access to the cash which was in the tens of thousands of dollars.
One of two new unregistered vehicles taken between the 8th and 9th of November 2004 from a transporter yard in Otahuhu was used in the ram raid burglary. The 2004 Holden Aventra station wagon was later found burnt out in Ponsonby.
The second stolen car has since been seen in central Auckland and the North Shore, but has not been recovered. It is a bright red 2004 Holden Commodore SV6.
