Police consider warrant to arrest Stephen Jelicich

1 min read

Police are now considering obtaining a warrant to arrest Stephen Jelicich and viewing the possible criminality of his actions.

Mr Jelicich is refusing to comply with a court order that gives custody of five month old Caitlin to her mother.

Rodney Area Commander, Inspector Janet Hope says, "We hoped that Mr Jelicich would have done the sensible thing by now. I would urge him to come forward immediately. He has made his point and needs to stop taking the law into his own hands and risking the welfare of a child to make a stand, says Inspector Hope."

Inspector Hope says "The arguments surrounding the custody of Caitlin are not an issue for the Police, but the deliberate disregard for a court order is a Police matter, as an instruction from the court has to be followed.

Police say Mr Jelicich should not be praised for his actions as he is placing the welfare of a baby at risk.

"Should a Warrant be issued, he will have to be arrested and I am sure Mr Jelicich realises the implications of his actions," says Inspector Hope.

Members of the public with any information about the location of Mr Jelicich and Caitlin are asked to call the Orewa Police on 09 426 4555.
