Man claims he has bomb

1 min read

A contingent of Police, Fire, Ambulance and Army personnel are working to resolve a situation in Papakura Town Centre.

Most of the business district has been cordoned off since 9:30am.

The road closures are because a man has gone to the Shell Service Station on Great South Road in Papakura claiming he has a bomb.

"All of the services are involved in assessing the situation and it is necessary to keep the cordons in place in order to ensure the safety of the public in the immediate future", says Incident Controller, Inspector Alan Shearer.

"The man remains inside the service station and police are currently working to resolve this situation".

"We are asking the public to stay away from the area and plan alternative routes in and out of Papakura central".

"I want to assure the public we are working to resolve this situation as soon as possible and I ask that you remain patient".

"Enquiries are being made by Police to establish the man’s identity".

In the meantime the outer cordon runs from the intersection of Walters Road and Great South Road in the north down GSR to Wood St at the southern end.

"These cordons will be constantly evaluated throughout the afternoon".
