Police offer $20,000 reward in Manurewa sex attack case

1 min read

Counties Manukau detectives investigating the brutal attack on a 14-year-old Manurewa girl in her home on December 31st 2004, are offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of a second person police believe was involved.

"We have evidence to suggest a second man was involved in the attack, therefore we are still hunting a sex offender who is out in the community - a person who has the potential to attack in this way is worrying to police", says head of Operation Gerona Detective Senior Sergeant Sue Schwalger.

"This is the reason why we have gone to such lengths to generate more information. The fact is that despite having one arrest, we are still only half way to solving this horrendous crime."

The offer of the reward, signed off by Police Commissioner, Rob Robinson, will be valid for six months.

Ms Schwalger says that if money is a motivator for someone in the community, all they have to do is give police the right name which leads to an arrest and this act alone could be quite profitable for them.

Police officers will be delivering hundreds of reward notices in letterboxes in and around the Manukau Central area today and tomorrow.

Anyone with information can ring the dedicated police hotline, in confidence, 0800 GERONA (0800 437662).
