In Christchurch - the morning after the game

1 min read

No Lions supporters were processed through the cells at Christchurch at all last night even though the bars were very full until day break, says Inspector Craig McKay.

"Snow started falling around 4.30am and the bars were humming," he said.

In Christchurch there were 18 arrests over night, (no Lions supporters) four people taken to hospital for detox, (all New Zealanders). The arrests were mainly for assaults and disorder. No serious crime was reported.

No visitors were stopped for drink driving offences, all were New Zealanders.

Unfortunately a 44 year old New Zealand man collapsed and died in the queue to get in to see the game. There are no suspicious circumstances.

No campervans have been reported broken into at this time. Seven motel units in the same motel were discovered broken into by returning visitors and cash taken.

"The Lions Supporters have been great visitors," says Inspector Craig McKay. We wish them safe travelling, better rugby and weather, and hope they return one day soon. The perfect visitors - and they certainly know how to party!"
