Approximately 10.55pm last night (Saturday, 1 August 2009) emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on the Raetihi-Pipiriki Road.
An eastbound car lost control on a corner crashing into an embankment
A 15-year-old female passenger died at the scene and another 15-year-old female passenger was taken to Wanganui Hospital with moderate injuries.
A police serious crash examiner conducted a scene examination today.
The 43-year-old male driver is currently in police custody and will appear in Taumarunui District Court tomorrow (Monday, 3 August) charged with refusing officers a request for blood, driving under the influence of drink causing injury and driving under the influence of drink causing death.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and further charges have not been ruled out.
The girl who died is not being named until all family members have been notified.
