Waikato kidnapping arrest

1 min read

An Auckland man wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a woman in the Waikato last week is appearing in Court this afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Dave Grace said the man's arrest resulted from a series of searches of properties early this morning.

"Hamilton Detectives, assisted by members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad searched an address in the City's Mahoe St and a property in Te Awamutu 's Te Tomo St.

"While these searches failed to result in the offender's capture a car stolen from Auckland last month was recovered."

Mr Grace said two distraction devices were used during the securing of the second address.

"A short time later follow up inquiries led us to another Te Awamutu address, this one on Ryburn St where a cordon was established.

"Voice appeals commenced and the offender gave himself up without further incident. He will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court this afternoon on kidnapping, assault and theft of a motor vehicle charges," he said.
