1 min read

Waitakere Police are investigating an assault on a man who was found lying unconscious outside a store in New Lynn last night.

The male was found outside the liquor store on the corner of Willerton Avenue and Titirangi Road in New Lynn at about 6:30pm. His condition deteriorated last night at Waitakere Hospital and he was transferred to critical care at North Shore Hospital. His condition has since improved.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton says, "At this stage inquiries show the man was standing outside the liquor store when a vehicle has pulled up. The driver has got out and approached the victim and punched him several times. The man then fell to the ground and the offender left in the vehicle."

The reason for what appears to be an unprovoked attacked is unknown at this stage.

The offender is described as a male Maori, aged about thirty with black hair tied in a pony tail and full facial tattoos. He is described as being a stocky build and approximately 5ft, 10 inches in height.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time. Anyone with information can contact the Henderson Police on 839 0600.
