Pedalling for the pool

1 min read

New Brighton Police and Central NB School Principal, Brian Thompson, are making good time as they cycle their way across the Canterbury plains. The team left the beach near Kumara on the West Coast on Monday morning and after many hours of back-breaking riding, are due at the school at 1.30pm today.

The 17 cyclists will be met at QE 2 Drive at 1pm and escorted home by the New Brighton Fire Brigade and with no doubt to be met with great glee by the students.

Fire staff have supported the riders along with police and many local businesses; Hellers, the Funky Pumpkin New Brighton and Storer Motors are particularly thanked.

The team is riding to raise the $30,000 needed to keep the Central New Brighton School swimming pool operational, something they see of particular importance in an area like New Brighton which is surrounded by water.
