Police looking for clues about what might have happened to 23 year-old student Srikanth Rayadurgam say it appears he attempted to make two international calls from his mobile 'phone shortly after 10pm the night he went missing, October 1.

"We know his 'phone was polling in the Karangahape Rd area at 9.20pm that night as Vodafone records show there were incoming, unanswered calls to his number," Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Aumua said.

"Through examining the 'phone itself we've been able to further determine that two attempts were made to call an international number at 10.08pm and 10.31pm but neither of those calls was connected."

Police and Asian Safety Patrol members will be out and about in the Karangahape Rd area tonight, trying to trigger people's memories of any sightings of Srikanth around there on October 1.

Specialist Search Group got underway with their activities at Pt Erin Reserve and Westhaven Marina at about 8am today and have concentrated on land-based searches of the reserve thus far.

Shoreline and beach searches will be carried out tomorrow and the Police Dive Team will also be back in the water tomorrow to focus on the breakwater and inside the confines of Westhaven Marina itself.

Mr Aumua said that, as time goes on concerns for the safety of Srikanth naturally increase and urged anyone with information about him to contact the investigation team on 0800 111 377.
