Controlled Purchase Operation – Liquor

1 min read

On Saturday evening (15/10/05) staff from Christchurch Police, Christchurch City Council Licensing Inspectors and Community & Public Health conducted a controlled purchase operation.

Two sixteen year olds visited bottle stores, convenience stores, clubs and taverns throughout Christchurch attempting to purchase liquor.

The three agencies were extremely pleased with the result, in which staff of all of the premises sought identification and refused service when it was not produced.

Peter Shaw, Liquor Licensing Officer with Community and Public Health commented, "It is the first operation we have run in Christchurch where no purchases have been made. The fact that staff on licensed premises are not asking age but requiring formal identification is positive. Further operations will be conducted in the near future to ensure this standard is maintained".
