Police concerned about missing elderly woman's safety

Hamilton Police hold grave fears for the safety of an elderly woman reported to them as missing yesterday who was last seen five days ago.

Audrey GIBSON, 81, was last seen leaving her hairdresser's on Comries Rd, Queenwood, about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Described as a Female Caucasian about 160cm tall Audrey has grey hair and was last seen wearing a white and brown loose top jersey with a white sleeveless shirt, brown trousers and carrying a green canvas shopping bag and her black hand-bag.

Sergeant Phil Bell of the Waikato Police Search and Rescue Squad said an urban search and rescue operation had began which included checks with neighbours at Audrey's Comries Rd flat.

In addition Police aboard their Hamilton based search boat had began searching the Waikato River and its banks.

Anyone who may have seen Audrey is asked to contact the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.
