1 min read

Hamilton Police are asking store owners and shoppers to keep a wary eye out for a machete thrown away somewhere in Barton St following an incident in the City's CBD overnight.

Police were called to reports of a man suffering wounds to his arm after being struck with a machete on Victoria St about 11.20pm.

The victim suffered the injuries to his left arm warding off a blow to his chest delivered by his attacker.

The offender fled down Bryce St and on to Barton St followed by the victim and four associates where he was apprehended by Police.

The 18-year-old man claimed he threw the machete down an alleyway prior to being arrested and efforts to try and locate it have so far been unsuccessful.

Arrested he will appear in the Hamilton District Court today on charges of wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Anyone who locates a large knife or machete is asked to contact the Hamilton Central Police station on 07 858 6200.
