Operation Crusade

1 min read

Christchurch Central police will be targeting inner city disorder and drunkenness in the weeks leading up to Christmas/New Year.

Last Saturday a special operation commenced with extra staff rostered on between 7pm Saturday and 5am Sunday during which 8 persons were arrested on various charges relating to drunk and disorder.

Inspector Gary Knowles, Area Controller, says that excess liquor is a major contributor to most incidents in the city.

"If we can reduce the amount of excess liquor being consumed, it is noticeable that the number of assaults and burglaries in the city fall away," he says. "It becomes a much safer and enjoyable place for everyone to be."
