Missing woman sought after incident

1 min read

Police are increasingly concerned that there has been no sign of or word of a young woman whom witnesses saw run over by a vehicle several times early this morning.

Police do not know who she is and appeal for anyone with information or who has a friend or flat mate who has not come home this morning to contact them.

She is reported as being young, in her 20's, of small build with shoulder length brown hair.

"We have had no sightings of the woman since," says Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Fitzgerald. "We do have two witnesses who have described her as pleading for her life as she was hit once by the car then four or five times more. They were horrified."

DSS Fitzgerald says that from the witness descriptions she would be seriously injured and need medical attention. If anyone knows where she is he appeals to them to get her medical treatment immediately.

One witness describes two males being involved and the other saw one male.

The witnesses saw her pulled in a two door, white Honda Hatch back with sun roof, and driven off towards Fitzgerald Ave.

The witnesses were local residents in different locations.

A Honda vehicle very close to this description was discovered burnt out at McLeans Island Road around 3.30am. It had been stolen from outside a Peterborough Street address between 10.30pm and 12.30 this morning

Another witness saw a grey station wagon near the burnt out vehicle early this morning. The Honda car was seen set alight from a distance.

"Anyone who has seen the white Honda between 10.30pm last night and 3.30am this morning is asked to contact us. We're also looking for any sightings of the grey station wagon in and around town and the McLeans Island area last night," DSS Fitzgerald says. "The Honda was seen cruising around town earlier in the evening with two caucasian males in it."

Anyone with information should call 363 7620.
