1 min read

A 35 year old male has died after being struck by the crane he was dismantling at a construction site in Mahoenui Valley Road, Coatesville.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the tragic accident happened at about 0900 hours this morning when the deceased and two other co-workers were climbing up the crane.

They then jumped onto an 'A' framed boom in an effort to loosen it. The boom has then failed.

The two co-workers managed to jump clear, but the deceased man was struck and killed instantly by the steel boom.

Labour Department Occupational Safety and Health are investigating the accident. The name of the deceased will not be released until all relatives have been notified.
