Police Investigate Stabbing in Orewa

Rodney Police investigating the stabbing of two teenage girls in Orewa early on Saturday morning, say they have a good description of the two alleged offenders.

Officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Hayden Mander, says that a 16 year old girl, and her 17 year old female friend, were both stabbed in the locality of Centreway Road in Orewa.

"The incident happened at about 12.30am on Saturday 4 March 2006."

"The two friends were with two other girls, and while they were passing by a bus stop they were approached by a 17 year old male and his 16 year old female associate."

"There was a verbal altercation between the two groups, and the two victims were chased across the road by the male and his associate."

"The two girls were then stabbed. The number of times has not yet been determined."

"The 16 year old victim received severe injuries to the neck, abdomen, leg, and hip, while the other received several gashes to the forearm. They were both rushed to North Shore Hospital by ambulance."

"The 16 year old victim has undergone respiratory surgery and an abdominal examination. She remains in a stable condition in hospital."

"The other victim has since been discharged."

"This was a cowardly attack on a group of innocent teenage girls and Police are urgently seeking the assistance of the public in identifying and locating the two alleged offenders responsible for this violent act," Detective Sergeant Mander said.

The following is the description of both the alleged offender, and his female associate who watched the entire incident.

Dark coloured baseball cap with white writing on it
Dark coloured trousers
Shirt with blue and white horizontal stripes

Approx 16 - 17 years

Wearing:
Blue jeans
Gold coloured shoes
Light blue or white shirt

Police are interested in talking to each of these two individuals.

They could have been waiting at the bus stop for travel to Whangaparaoa.
