Further Glen Innes arrests

1 min read

There have been two further arrests in relation to violent attacks on two men in Glen Innes late on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday, April 2.

Police have arrested a 17 year-old Henderson resident in relation to both attacks. He will appear in the Youth Court tomorrow where he will be jointly charged with two others with Crimes Act Common Assault in relation to the Maybury Reserve attack which has left a 37 year-old man in Auckland Hospital in serious condition.

He will also be charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to what Police believe was a later attack on a security guard working in Glen Innes township at about 2.20am on Sunday.

A 14 year-old Glen Innes boy has also been arrested in relation to the Maybury Reserve attack and will appear in the Youth Court to face the charge of Crimes Act Common Assault.

In all, three young men will appear in the Youth Court tomorrow to face that charge. One of them, a 19 year-old Glen Innes resident, is due to have his first Court appearance in the Auckland District Court today.

Police investigating the attacks say the inquiry is making good progress and have thanked the people of Glen Innes who have assisted so far.

Doctors caring for the 37 year-old victim say his condition has deteriorated today and have encouraged family members to visit him.

Officer in charge of the inquiry, Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley, says there's still plenty of work to be done on the two investigations.
