Incident at St Albans Park

1 min read

On Tuesday 4 April 2006 at about 5.00 pm, a sexual violation incident occurred in the male toilets of St Albans Park. St Albans Park borders Madras Street / Edward Avenue and Barbadoes Street This is a very popular recreational facility with both organised sports practises and a large children's playground situated there.

An eight year old boy, after soccer practice, went into the single cubicle toilet block. As he was leaving the toilet, he was accosted by another male, forced back inside, assaulted and sexually violated.

The boy's grandfather was near by and became concerned about the time his grandson was away. He knocked on the toilet door, disturbing this offender who left on a BMX or mountain bike from about the toilet block heading towards the skateboard area.

The boy was only out of his grandfather's sight for less than five minutes which was long enough for this offence to occur.

The offender is described as a male of medium build, aged in his mid to late teens. He was approximately 165 - 175 cm in height, had dark hair and olive complexion. He had a ring type earring in his right ear.

He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, pale blue jeans, black lace up shoes and a black coloured single strap backpack with green coloured graffiti on it.

It may be that the offender lives in the area or someone may recognise the description as a friend, relative or classmate. Police are very concerned that this person will re-offend and seek assistance from the public to identify him.

Anyone knows of any other similar incidents or has any information is asked to contact Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Wormald at the Papanui Police on 374 1763.
