Police officers and dog shot in Christchurch.

Late this morning a Police dog handler accompanied by a General Duties constable went to a suburban flat in Christchurch.



In the course of discussions at with an occupant/s of the flat, a firearm was presented. This resulted in the dog handler receiving a head injury and the General Duties Constable receiving a leg injury. Unfortunately the Police dog received a fatal injury.



Both officers are in hospital and are receiving treatment for their injuries which are not life threatening. Local staff responded quickly to the shooting incident and a male offender has been apprehended.



Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent Dave Cliff, is currently briefing news media.
