MEDIA RELEASE - Canterbury District

Canterbury Police believe it will be several days before the identity of a man found dead after a house fire in the small rural settlement of Darfield can be determined.
Firefighters were called to the property on Bleak House Rd about 5.20am today however the man's body was not found until several hours later when they were inspecting the house for hotspots.
The property was cordoned off and Police commenced an enquiry on behalf of the Coroner.
Forensic experts are now working to complete the identity process.
Initial enquiries indicate the man's death is not suspicious and the fire was not linked to any after-effects from the series of earthquakes that have hit the region.
Media enquiries should be referred to Communications Manager Andrew McAlley on 027 296 2396.
