Auckland Motorway Police and the Serious Crash Unit are urging all witnesses to this morning's fatal crash on the Southern Motorway to contact them as soon as possible.

Police were called to the scene at 9.00am after a Mitsubishi vehicle hit a centre barrier on the motorway, in a sector close to the South Eastern arterial express way.

On arrival Police found a male occupant in the vehicle already deceased.

Two other male occupants travelling in the car received critical injuries and are in Auckland Hospital. Their condition is stable. Next of kin are yet to be informed. One of the injured victims was thrown from the car upon impact.

Police are asking any witnesses to this morning's fatality or anyone who has information that can assist Police in their investigations into this incident to contact Constable Gary Abbott of the Serious Crash Unit on 09 481 0300 as soon as possible.

Police are also seeking witnesses to another serious crash on the southern motorway. This crash happened under the Greenlane interchange at about 8.00pm on Wednesday 9 August 2006.

Police say a single vehicle travelling south has lost control and collided with the concrete wall on the left side of the motorway. After colliding with the wall the vehicle has travelled across all three lanes and then collided with the concrete medium barrier, before finally coming to rest in lane three.

Police have not yet been able to ascertain what caused the vehicle to lose control and are seeking witnesses to this incident.

The vehicle was a 1992 Ford Telstar Stationwagon. A passenger in the rear of the vehicle was taken from the scene in a critical condition but is now making a good recovery. Injuries to the driver and a second passenger are also not life threatening.

Witnesses to this incident or anyone who has information that could assist the Police investigation into this crash, is requested to contact Constable Mike CARTER at Auckland Motorways on 09 481 0300.
