Motorcycle Fatality on the North Shore

North Shore Police have released the name of a 35 year old motorcyclist who died after he collided with the rear of a parked car in the suburb of Browns Bay last night.

The name of the deceased is:

SMITH / Kelvin James

Browns Bay.

DOB 28/10/1970

Police say that at about 11.00pm last night, Wednesday 16 August 2006 they were called to Sunrise Avenue on the North Shore. On their arrival they found a male rider seriously injured. He was trapped under the parked car.

The victim died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Prior to the collision the victim had fallen off the motorcycle on Sunrise Avenue nearby Rangitoto College. After being assisted back on his motorcycle by two members of the public, he rode further down Sunrise Avenue but collided with the parked vehicle.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the accident.

Constable Colin Nuttall of the SCU would like anyone who witnessed the actions of a yellow 1997 Triumph Daytona motorcycle while it was being ridden between Titirangi and the North Shore prior to 11.00pm last night, to contact him on 027 235 4529.

The rider of this motorcycle was dressed in dark clothing, and wearing a distinctive yellow and white crash helmet.
