1 min read

Police are investigating the cause of a fatal car crash on West Coast Road in the West Auckland suburb of Glen Eden yesterday.

Police went to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Woodbank Drive and West Coast Road, at about 4.20pm yesterday, Friday 22 September 2006.

Constable Colin Nuttall of the Serious Crash Unit says when police arrived they found a Hyundai Station Wagon had crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an oncoming Ford utility.

"A 21 year old Polynesian male who was driving the Hyundai has died at the scene. The 44 year old male driver of the utility is in hospital. His condition is considered critical," he said. No names have been released.

"Witnesses have told Police they saw two vehicles prior to the incident. One of those vehicles was a silver Subaru, and there are reports that these vehicles were travelling at speed. Enquiries are being carried out to identify and locate this driver."

"Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen both a silver Subaru and a red Hyundai station wagon travelling together in the Glen Eden area or on West Coast road at around 4.00 - 4.20pm on Friday 22 September 2006," Constable Nuttall said.
