Sudden death inquiry commences following discovery of body west of Huntly

Western Waikato Police are securing the scene where a body was found in a fire at a rural location west of Huntly this evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a motorist raised the alarm about what appeared to be a person on fire by a rural road west of Huntly shortly after 10pm.

Police are working to contain the integrity of the scene during the hours of darkness to allow a scene examination to be carried out in daylight.

The discovery of the body has resulted in the commencement of a sudden death inquiry and the matter has been reported to the Coroner.

An update will be made available to media after sunrise tomorrow morning as further details come to hand.

A spokesperson will not be available for comment overnight.
