A man has been charged following a crash which resulted in the death of a Horowhenua woman and her unborn child.

42-year-old Ann-Maree Hardiman was driving to her Levin home on Saturday, 13 November, having attended the Gin Wigmore concert in Palmerston North. Around midnight as she drove through Opiki her car was struck by another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Ann-Maree was seven months pregnant at the time of the crash. Her female friend, also 42-year-old and from the Horowhenua, was injured in the crash as was the 18-year-old driver of the other vehicle.

Following a police investigation the 18-year-old has now been charged with EBA causing death and EBA causing injury.

The Masterton man will appear at Palmerston North District Court this afternoon (Wednesday, 2 February).
