Positive Sightings of French Backpacker

1 min read

Queenstown Police have received information of a fairly positive sighting of 23-year-old French backpacker, Emilie Pace, but would still like her to get in touch with them.

Police have received information that two French speaking people have been tramping on Fiordland's South Coast and Hump Ridge tracks over the past few days.

"The information we've received suggests that the woman closely matches the description we have of Emilie, and her lack of contact with family could be explained by the fact that this area is largely out of cell phone range," said Sergeant Brian Cameron of Queenstown Police.

"We believe that Emilie could still be in the Western Southland or Invercargill areas and would ask her to get in touch with police so that we could verify her identity and safety," said Sergeant Brian Cameron of Queenstown Police.

Police did not want to say where the information had come from but thanked the New Zealand public for their response to calls for information about her whereabouts.
