1 min read

North Shore Police say the coroner has now issued the necessary authority for the body of Birkdale homicide victim Doreen REED to be released for burial.

Detective Inspector Steve WOOD says funeral arrangements are in progress.

The deceased victim's funeral will be held on Monday [22 January 2007] at Dil's Funeral, North Harbour Chapel, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, Albany, at 1.00pm

Mrs REED has two surviving relatives both of whom are living overseas. Neither the 95 year old brother in the United Kingdom nor the 87 year old sister in South Africa is able to attend, he said.

Members of the Police investigation team will be present and our thoughts are also with deceased's family, relatives, friends and local community at this time.

There have been 25 police personnel involved at various times in this homicide enquiry and while there is still much to be done, the numbers of staff engaged in the investigation is expected to be reduced soon.

Police wish to express their appreciation for the invaluable assistance provided by all sectors of the community over the past few days, and we are no longer seeking information on any weapon used in the killing of the deceased, Detective Inspector WOOD said.
