Christchurch 6.0 aftershock update: Red Zone being evacuated

A further aftershock measuring magnitude 6.0 hit Christchurch at 2.20pm. Initial police reports include:

• Police are evacuating the central city red zone; reports of a possible gas leak - Fire Service are attending.
• Rockfalls reported at Boulder Bay, Shag Rock and other hill locations
• Old Waimakariri bridge closed
• Moorhouse Ave overbridge closed
• Merivale Mall closed
• Gloucester/Gayhurst bridge closed
• Anzac Ave bridge closed
• Central police station evacuated

Police are urging residents to check on friends and neighbours, and to stay at home and avoid travelling if possible.
