Fatal Fire in Henderson

Police and Fire Safety Officers are investigating the circumstances of a fire in the Henderson CBD in which one person has died and two others have been injured.

Police say that at about 12.45pm today [Saturday 3 February 2007] they went to a Dental Surgery that was on fire at 372 Great North Road Henderson. The surgery is located upstairs on first floor at the address.

On arrival officers discovered the body of a deceased female. Two males who were on the premises at the time the fire started suffered burns and severe smoke inhalation. The two men are in Waitakere Hospital.

Henderson CIB and Fire Safety Officers will continue their scene examination to determine the cause of the blaze. Police will remain at the scene overnight and the results of a post-mortem examination will be known later tomorrow.

Police say they expect to be able to release further details on both the identity of the deceased and the nature and full circumstances surrounding the fire tomorrow afternoon. Police will make no further comment until then.
