Hamilton Police investigating the alleged gunpoint invasion of a young woman's home are appealing for information from the public as their victim comes to terms with her ordeal.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said Police were yet to obtain a description of the offenders from the 19-year-old woman who was understandably shaken by what had occurred.

"At this point we believe the woman has finished showering and gone into the kitchen of her Bryant Rd home about 9.30am only to find two balaclava clad men standing there, one armed with a firearm.

"It appears the woman has been assaulted and then threatened with the firearm held to her head. A neighbour's activities appear to have spooked our offenders who have fled the home."

Mr Thornton said Detectives hoped to speak to the victim again tomorrow but in the interim Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything untoward either shortly before or after 9.30am in the vicinity of Bryant Rd.

"This type of behaviour can not be tolerated and we're appealing for anyone with information to contact Hamilton Police on 07 8586200, you call will be treated in confidence."

Alternatively information can be left anonymously on the Crimestoppers crimeline; 0800 555111.
