1 min read

A 29 year-old Woodville man has been arrested and charged with the abduction and sexual assault of a 16 year-old girl in Glen Eden last year.

The victim was walking near the Glen Eden shops on the night of Friday July 11, 2014, when she is alleged to have been abducted and brutally assaulted over a 3-hour period. She was left injured and traumatised in the carpark of Auckland Zoo in Western Springs.

A media appeal was launched at the time, and several months later Police released a computer sketch of the offender. On both occasions, Police received numerous calls from members of the public with information.

On Wednesday, Detectives from the Waitemata Police travelled to Palmerston North, arrested and charged a 29 year-old man with the attack.  He appeared in Palmerston North District Court today on charges of abduction, rape, sexual violation and aggravated injuring. He was remanded in custody and will reappear in the Palmerston North District Court on Monday 18 January.

Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance with this case.
