1 min read

Police have released the name of the male driver who died in a fatal crash on the Northern Motorway SH1 at Dairy Flat early today. He was:

BAILEY/Mark David

Age 40 years

Managing Director

Resident of Dairy Flat

The deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police say that about 0624 hours this morning [Monday 19 March 2007] a Ford Transit van was being driven south along the motorway when it collided with a number of centre median barrier poles.

After hitting the poles the van then veered left across the lanes and struck the Bawden Road overbridge. The driver died instantly at the scene.

A heavy recovery vehicle removed the wreckage of the vehicle while Transit authorities inspected the structure of the bridge. No damage has been sustained.

Police say the cause of the fatality is yet to be fully determined. A post mortem examination later today will reveal further information as to the nature of this fatality. A dog was also in the vehicle and he's been placed in animal control care by police.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and they would like to hear from anyone who sighted the Ford Transit van with its distinctive personalised plate number F1XIT4, prior to the crash. Anyone with information can call the SCU on telephone [09] 481 0300
