Police in New Plymouth praise good rugby spirit

1 min read

Showers didn't dampen the good spirits of fans attending the Ireland v USA game in New Plymouth and Police are praising them for their good behaviour.

All fans at the game showed impeccable respect during a minute's silence to the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York.

No-one was arrested at the game, traffic flowed well with no congestion and St John treated only one person who was feeling unwell.

The officer in charge of the New Plymouth Police Rugby World Cup operation, Inspector Blair Telford said: "The spectators followed the advice to arrive at the game early and everyone joined in the spirit of the occasion creating a great atmosphere.

"There was a noticeably large contingent of Irish fans at the game and we're expecting the City to be busy with post-match celebrations. Hopefully the good behaviour will continue throughout the night."
