Arrest Assists Young Japanese Victim

1 min read

Rodney Police investigating the sexual violation of a young Japanese female, say the arrest of a 29 year old Orewa man on two charges of unlawful sexual connection and one of aggravated robbery, is an excellent result for the victim, as well as for the Orewa community and Police.

Clint Tawairoa Samuel / NEPIA, a jib stopper, of Orewa, appeared in the North Shore District Court today and he's been further remanded in custody until 24 April 2007. No plea has yet been entered. Further charges of abduction and attempted rape are yet to be laid, making a total of five charges overall.

Detective Andrew WONG says the victim told Police she was walking on the footpath by Maygrove Park, Orewa, at about 9.00pm on Tuesday 20 March 2007, when an unknown male suddenly attacked her. She was then sexually assaulted at knifepoint.

"The victim is greatly relieved that an arrest has been made and she has told Police that she will now be able to have a good night's sleep for the first time in a fortnight," said Mr WONG.

"This young Japanese woman was so overwhelmed by the level of police commitment to achieving an arrest that she called at Orewa Station to personally thank the members of the investigation team for helping her. It will take considerable time for the victim to recover from her terrifying ordeal," he said.

"The Orewa community can feel comfort about the fact that this alleged sex offender has been apprehended, arrested, charged, and that he remains in custody," Detective WONG said.
