Boats collide in Marlborough Sounds

A boat has sunk after a collision with another vessel in the Marlborough Sounds about 10am today.

The DOC vessel Waitohi and a private yacht were involved in the collision at the Bay of Many Coves in Queen Charlotte Sound.

The people onboard both vessels have been rescued and the yacht is now submerged but being held up by the other vessel.

There was one person onboard the yacht and it is believed two people were onboard the DOC vessel. They are believed to have minor injuries.

The Coastguard, Harbourmaster, Police and Ambulance have arrived at the scene.

The weather in the area is deteriorating.
