Arrest in Hamilton taxi assault

1 min read

Hamilton Police are crediting the value of the media after a tattooed offender wanted for a September attack on a taxi driver was identified within minutes of his image appearing on television.

City Enquiries Section Supervisor, Sergeant Neil Fenwick, said Police received several calls from members of the public nominating a man allowing for the case to progress.

"To that end officers arrested an 18-year-old Hamilton man in the City this morning and charged him with assault. There is no doubt the distinctive nature of the man's tattoo on his neck played a major part in enabling us to identify this man.

"We have also made progress in identifying the second offender who has been identified as an 18-year-old Hamilton man who we will be speaking to on his return to Australia."

Mr Fenwick said Police are very appreciative of the assistance of the public in this matter.
