Lower Hutt Police are looking for a single offender following an armed robbery at the Westpac Bank branch on Jackson Street, Petone, this morning.
The armed man entered the bank around 9.35am. Police staff and a police dog attended the incident.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Levy says there were about 15 people in the bank at the time, which included customers and staff. No one was hurt.
The man demanded money from a bank teller. He was carrying a weapon believed to be a small firearm. He left on foot down Queen Street towards The Esplanade with the money.
Police are looking for a Caucasian man wearing: • blue jeans • dark trainers • a black top with a 3/4 length zip down the front • a black back pack • a black baseball-type cap with a white rim with a logo on the front • a dark scarf covering his face • black gloves.
Security camera images of the suspect are being posted on the Police website.
Police are also interested in an area on the corner of Cuba Street and The Esplanade where a man was seen changing clothes shortly afterwards.
Police are speaking to witnesses today.
