This afternoon a 53-year-old Christchurch man was arrested and charged with the murder and sexual violation of Tracey Lee Morris, whose body was found in a car in Grays Road, Christchurch, yesterday. He will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 9 January.
A post-mortem examination has been conducted and the injuries are consistent with a violent incident.
Tracey's next-of-kin have been advised. Police Family Liaison officers and Victim Support are working with the family.
Detective Inspector Virginia Le Bas said: "We would like to thank the public for their response and the information they have provided. However, this investigation is continuing and we would like to hear from anyone else with information which might help us establish the course of events leading to Tracey's death."
The forensic scene examination will continue over the next few days.
