1 min read

Wellington Police have arrested an 18-year-old unemployed man in relation to nine incidents of arson in Miramar since January this year.

He is charged with lighting fires at Miramar South School, at a local residential address and setting fire to a number of vehicles parked near the school. The most recent incident occurred on Friday 4 May, says Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell.

"The police investigation included examining the fires for similarities, looking at CCTV footage and most importantly collating information from residents, which has led to the apprehension of this local man.

"The fires have caused a great deal of worry and concern for many residents along with the damage and associated monetary loss."

The fires were all started in a similar fashion in the area bounded by Miro Street, Kedah Street and Kauri Street in Miramar.

The man has appeared in Wellington District Court today.
