Swimmer missing on West Coast of South Island

A search is under way for a swimmer who was swept into the ocean at the mouth of the Mokihinui River north of Westport today.

The 44 year old Mokihinui man was attempting to swim across the river mouth when he was swept out to sea about 4.10pm today.

Searchers are yet to find any trace of the man.
