Beaten man of no fixed abode

1 min read

Auckland City Police believe the man who was found badly beaten near the corner of Mayoral Drive and Queen St in Auckland at about 5.45 this morning is a 53 year-old of no fixed abode.

He is in Auckland City Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Police have cordoned a section of Mayoral Drive off, along with a small area of Myers Park adjacent to some offices where the man was found by a security guard.

The man was bailed from the Auckland Central Police Station at 9.45 last night after having been detained for breaching the liquor ban in the area. It's believed he regularly dossed down at or near where he was found badly beaten this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hayden Mander says that although Police can't categorically say where the man received his injuries, it's likely he was beaten where he was found.

Police are examining the scene and hope to have the cordon on Mayoral Drive reduced later today.

Anyone with information about the assault should contact the Auckland Central CIU on 09 302 6400 and speak with Detective Sergeant Chris Cahill or Detective Senior Sergeant Hayden Mander.
