Searchers have located a man reported overdue from a solo caving expedition in Kubla Khan cave in Bullock Creek, near Punakaiki.
The 82 year old man entered the cave about 5pm yesterday and was expected to return my 9pm. His wife waited overnight at the cave entrance in their campervan.
This morning the woman, who does not drive, walked 8km to Punakaiki to raise the alarm.
Searchers located the man about 11am, about 50 metres underground and are now working to get him out of the cave. He is unwell and unable to walk out.
