Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a Christchurch man missing since Friday morning, who may be in the Tasman district.

The missing man is Mark William Robinson, aged 37. Detective Constable Keith Olds says Mr Robinson has not been seen since Friday morning but his car was located yesterday near Tapawera, between Nelson and Murchison.

"Robinson left for work at around 7.30am on Friday but did not go to work as usual," he says.

"We believe he travelled to Nelson, and then on towards Murchison. His car, a gold Mazda MX5 convertible, was found by Police yesterday evening on a back road near Tapawera.

"An initial search of the area has not turned up any sign of Mr Williams."

Detective Constable Olds says at this stage there is nothing to suggest that foul play is involved, but Police hold concerns for Mr Robinson's welfare as his disappearance is out of character.

"We urge Mr Robinson to contact Police as soon as possible. We would also like to hear from anyone who has seen Mr Robinson or had contact with him since Friday morning - or who knows anything about his whereabouts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Olds on (03) 3739220, or Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.

Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
