Christchurch Police investigating train fatality

Christchurch police are investigating a death of a person hit by a train in Hornby this morning.

A scene examination is currently under way at the site of the fatality, which is an area of double track between Denton Park and Kyle Park, just north of the Hornby shopping complex.

At this stage Police have not been able to confirm the identity or the gender of the deceased.

The time of the incident is also not yet known, but Police believe it is likely to have occurred in the early hours of this morning. The incident was called in to Police at 9.40 this morning by a member of the public.

Investigators say at this stage there is no indication of foul play, but enquiries are continuing to determine the circumstances of the incident.

The tracks have been closed since Police arrived at the scene, but were expected to re-open by about 1.00pm.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has seen or heard anything in this vicinity overnight.
