At least five shots were fired during three armed robberies in broad daylight in Auckland yesterday between 4pm and 5pm.

Police are urging anyone with footage or photos of any incident where a male Maori or Polynesian aged anywhere between his late 20s and 40 and who was driving a 2012 royal blue-coloured Commodore SV6, registration GPH784, in the Domain and on Mt Eden to contact Auckland City CIB.

The shots were fired into the ground during one of the robberies at Mt Eden Summit. Police want to hear from anyone who knows who the offender might be.

Police inquiries have since determined the car he was driving was stolen from a rental company lock-up compound near the airport late on February 6, but was only reported stolen to Police today.

It's likely, assuming the same man has been in possession of the vehicle for the past 12 days, he would have had to refuel somewhere and park the car in the meantime.

Members of the public are urged not to approach anyone who is driving this vehicle but to report any sightings of it to Police immediately by calling 111.

Police have recovered casings from five discharged .22 calibre bullets, all of which were fired into the ground at the summit of Mt Eden when the last two of the man's victims challenged and chased him after a bag was taken from them.

Police are aware of at least four victims who were confronted by the offender who managed to steal money, a cell phone and a bag containing several personal and valuable items from them, including a Taiwanese passport.

Anyone else who was confronted by the man but who hasn't reported the incident to Police should do so as soon as possible.
